Introduction

Europe House is located in the historic center of Kőszeg, and is one of the town's most important cultural and scientific centers. Formerly known as Szvetics House and then  Sigray House, Europe House is steeped in history and decorated with Renaissance and Baroque elements dating back to the 17th century. It has witnessed remarkable events, including the fate of Count Jakab Sigray, who met a tragic fate due to his involvement in the Martinovics conspiracy.

A tapestry of history and intrigue

Over the centuries, renowned personalities came to be linked to the house, such as writer Sándor Tatay and diplomat Jenő Miske-Gerstenberger and his wife, Mary Allison-Walters, who played a role in espionage during World War II.

The building has been renovated several times, most recently as part of the KRAFT program, and since 2015 it has been home to Kőszeg Institute for Advanced Studies (iASK). Today,  Europe House is a venue for conferences, research programs, exhibitions, cultural events, and international collaborations. The aim of the House is to build bridges between science, art, and society, both locally and globally.
