Gyula Hernádi 100

We warmly invite you to a two-day commemorative event and conference celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Gyula Hernádi (1926–2005), taking place on September 17–18, 2026, in Szombathely and Kőszeg.

The event honors the remarkable legacy of Gyula Hernádi—writer, screenwriter, playwright, and public intellectual—whose work left a lasting mark on Hungarian literature, cinema, and public thought.

Hernádi's writings explored enduring themes of freedom, power, individual responsibility, and history with exceptional originality. His collaborations with director Miklós Jancsó produced films that remain among the most significant achievements of Hungarian and European cinema.

The anniversary program will bring together family members, fellow artists, actors, literary and film scholars, and public intellectuals. It will feature film screenings, panel discussions, personal recollections, and academic lectures.
